Chronograph or Chronometer? What is the difference?
The Breitling Chronomat Collection is a chronograph and a chronometer and it's movement is build completely in house by Breitling Roman Jewelers’ Watch store sells chorongraphs and chronometers. Somehow, our customers know that...even if they don’t know exactly what either word means and how they are different. They also know they don’t have to worry, because not only will our watch experts will fill them in, but they will be able to show them the largest collection of chronographs, chronometers, or both in the area.A chronograph is simply a watch with a built-in stopwatch feature. It's likely to have one or more sub-dials or a small liquid crystal display (LCD) panel to keep track of the elapsed time. Chronographs have extra pushers in addition to the crown for the stopwatch start/stop and reset functions. Roman Jewelers sells many watches that are chronographs from all the brands in our store. A chronometer is a very accurate (usually) mechanical watch with a high grade movement. The movement has been finely adjusted at the factory in several physical positions and temperature environments. A chronometer is almost always accredited and certified by either the watch manufacturer or by the prestigious Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute, COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres). Breitling and Rolex are probably the world's most well known chronometer certified watch brands. Breitling, in fact, is the only major brand in the world to fit all the models in its range - both mechanical and quartz - with chronometer-certified movements. This is a sign of genuine exclusivity since only 5% of watches produced in Swizerland each year receive this label of excellence. More questions? Call Gina or Larry at the Watch Store. They will be happy to help and enjoy sharing their extensive knowledge.

February’s Birthstone is Amethyst
Roberto Coin Amethyst & Diamond Necklace February can be bitterly cold, but getting that perfect piece of jewelry can warm the hearts of those you love. There are lots of exciting things going on this month like the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II on 2/6, Valentine’s Day on 2/14 and a great deal of birthdays that deserve very special attention. So, if you want to treat the special woman in your life like a queen and need beautiful gift ideas, we suggest you take inspiration from February's birthstone: Amethyst -- a regal gem with deep roots in nobility and power. The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that amethyst had the power to protect it’s owner from getting inebriated. Now is the time for you to become intoxicated with the beauty of this stone. It ranges in shades of pink rose and light lilac to the deepest hue of purple. Throughout history, amethyst has adorned glamorous royals like Marie Louise of Austria, the second wife of Napoleon and modern royal icons like Princess Diana, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. Today, you don’t have to be of noble blood to enjoy the regal sophistication of amethyst. Thanks to the discovery of new deposits, including a large find in Brazil, the semi-precious stone is more accessible than ever. Our favorite designers, like John Hardy, Roberto Coin, Scott Kay and Tacori have incorporated amethyst into their fashionjewelrycollections, pairing it with white and yellow gold, silver, and even diamonds for a dramatically stunning effect. So with only 29 days in February don’t delay. Just because it’s the shortest month, doesn’t mean you can’t give a gift that will last a lifetime.

Drew’s engagement ring features a colorless (D color) radiant-cut diamond that is just under 4 carats on a diamond-covered band. Want to learn about the look and the diamond?
The Radiant Diamond and why the cut is critical
Radiant shape is a bit more rare than some others and recently, at Roman Jewelers, we’ve been getting more and more requests for them because couples like the more “antique” look but also the uniqueness and brilliance of the stone. For maximum brilliance and a optimum diamond fire, a precise cut is crucial for a radiant diamond shape. The perfection of the cut, and thetalent of the diamond cutter creates the heavy reflection and refraction within the stone. An improperly cut diamond will have a lower value and less brilliant appearance that dampens the effect of its unusual shape. Most consumers assume that a proper radiant cut must be square with an equal length-to-width ratio, but in fact many stunning radiant cuts are rectangular; the exact proportions are a matter of personal preference which is why working with a knowledgeable jeweler is key and viewing many similar stones is an important part of the process when selecting this stone. Please do not buy a radiant cut on the internet, it would be doing a huge disservice to the diamond and to the buyer. The modern radiant shape was perfected by Henry Grossbard in 1977 when he successfully blended the geometry of emerald cut with the brilliance of the classic round diamond. A radiant cut is, basically, a hybrid stone that is generally square or rectangular but with slightly cropped corners that contribute to its eye-catching sparkle. Cut is everything in this stone and working with a jeweler that understands Fancy cuts is important to get the best value and diamond that is out there. Radiant cut diamonds are similar to three other familiar diamond shapes: but at the same time, the radiant cut is substantially different from each one and brings its own uniqueness to extraordinary pieces of jewelry. The cropped corners of the radiant cut immediately distinguish it from the sharp princess cut. A closer look, however, reveals that the radiant cut has a more uniform series of facets lending it a smooth sparkle, while princess cut diamonds have a starburst or X-shaped facet pattern. In comparison to the emerald cut, the radiant cut also has a more uniform sparkle. The key to a pristine emerald shape is in the series of diamond cuts that give it a very clear center, while the radiant has reflecting facets throughout the gem. The differences between radiant cut diamonds and Asscher cut diamonds are similar to those between radiant cuts and emerald cuts. The Asscher, too, uses a series of long step cuts to create a uniform series of reflections, while the radiant's sparkle and fire is closer to the brilliance of a round gem with its greater number of smaller facets. Radiant cut gems also have smaller trims on the corners, whereas Asscher cut diamonds have strong trims that give them an almost octagonal shape. Drew’s diamond is also set in a lovely ring. At Roman Jewelers, custom-making a ring like this would be the way to go. An extra special touch, even, would be to take some of the diamonds in the band from an old ring of Mom’s or Grandma’s to combine all that is special about this special time in life.
Tangerine Tango Orange Color is the Color Choice for 2012; accessorize it with jewelry
You will see it very soon; the Tangerine Tango, an electric orange color, wherever ladies clothes and accessories are sold. That color was selected as the color of 2012 by the Pantone Color Institute. The color is certainly vivacious, bright, and energizing. The color is simply stunning, but how to accessorize it properly? Here are some ideas and suggestions from Roman Jewelers. One way is to simply match the color. Precious Topaz, also known as Imperial Topaz, with it reddish-orange undertones, is a perfect match to an orange dress. Here is another stone that will bring even more fire to your outfit: a fire opal. Australian fire opals include combinations of vibrant colors such as oranges, reds, blues, greens, and purples. The rarest, however, and thus the most highly regarded, is the intense red-orange fire opal from Mexico. These gems would make your new outfit even more spectacular. And don’t forget the amber. Amber varies in color from pale yellow to very dark brown. You could choose an amber beaded necklace or a pendant or, perhaps, a pair of chandelier earrings. Not in a mood for any stones? That is fine too. If you want to bring the brightness of the electric orange color down, try a heavy silver necklace and a bangle. If yellow gold is your metal choice in jewelry, you are lucky; the warm color of yellow gold is a perfect complement to your new orange dress. Here is another idea. Instead of trying to warm-up the orange color, try to cool it down with a color that is complimentary to orange: blue. Go to your jewelry box and look for jewelry with blue topaz, aquamarine, sapphire, tanzanite, or turquoise. And don’t forget to match your now accessorized outfit with a pair of blue shoes and, possibly, a clutch bag.
Roman Jewelers Expands Watch Store with Breitling
Roman Jewelers of Flemington has added Breitling to their collection of fine swis watches available at their watch store. Roman & Sophie Shor, the store's owners are pleased that Breitling as agreed to become a part of their collection. "Truly, our watch store is much more complete. Our customers have been requesting Breitling for man, many, years and we would not have been doing our job if we didn't pursue it," says Sophie Shor. A specialist of technical watches, Breitling has played a crucial role in the development of the wrist chronograph since its beginnings in the Swiss Jula in 1884. These precision instruments were intended for sports, science and industry. Thanks to its high-quality products and its constant quest for innovation, the brand accompanied the boom of competitive sports and of the automobile – as well as the first feats of the aviation pioneers. The world’s only major watch brand to equip all its models with chronometer-certified movements, the ultimate token of precision, Breitling is also one of the rare companies to produce its own mechanical chronograph movement, entirely developed and manufactured in its own workshops. This family business is also one of the last remaining independent Swiss watch brands. “It takes a great deal of knowledge to sell Breitling. Understanding the automatic movement, the complications and the design of this watch is vital to the customer experience. Our staff has not only been trained by Breitling, but have years of experience with Swiss watches,” says Shor, although she admits, many of the customers who seek out this watch already know quite a bit about it, “They’ve done their homework,” she adds. Breitling retails from around $2,000. The Breitling for Bentley watch, considered the most highly collectible will also be available at Roman Jewelers within the next weeks.

When Emeralds and Diamonds Fit Together, a Beautiful Three-Stone Ring is Formed
Since posting a graphic of the three-stone ring with an emerald-cut diamond and two green emeralds a few days ago, I received phone calls and e-mails asking me to post a photo of the finished ring. Here it is for all to admire and enjoy. I know that the picture does not do the ring justice it deserves - I am still a photographer in training. But if you have a diamond and would like to redesign it into a different piece of jewelry while addingcolored stones to the design, only your imagination - or the lack of - can limit you. You see, not only are diamonds beautiful stones by themselves, they work great with many colored stones, bringing an array of new feelings and emotions to the wearer.
A New Twist on a Classic Ring; Two Emeralds and a Diamond

You get a new twist on a classic three-stone ring. Here is what we designed; a stunning ring, with the customer's diamond in the center and two magnificent bright deep-green emeralds on each side of the diamond.
