Choosing Your Bridal Jewelry
Choose a dress. Pick wedding bands. Decide on centerpieces. Find the perfect flowers. The list of things to decide when prepping for your wedding day goes on and on. There are so many options to choose from that sometimes it feels overwhelming when it should feel exciting to plan your special day. Let Roman Jewelers help take some of that stress off with some of our best tips for choosing your wedding jewelry. Of course, you can always visit us and have one of our amazing sales staff do the heavy lifting to hand-pick styles you’ll love, but if you’re more of a DIY bride, here are some of our suggestions.
First of all, it goes without saying, but the jewelry you decide to wear for your wedding should show off your individual style. You don’t want to look back on pictures and feel like you’re wearing some elaborate costume. That being said, you don’t have to stick with what you wear every day. Your wedding is the time to splurge on something you might not typically wear or be a little more extravagant than you normally would. If you can’t add a little extra sparkle on your wedding day, when can you?
Secondly, buy wedding jewelry that you can continue to wear. Just like picking a special perfume for your wedding day, the jewelry you wear can be a reminder of that amazing day anytime you put it on. If you choose something that you can wear again, even if only on special occasions, you’ll get to re-live your wedding day in a small way over and over again.
Our owner, Lucy Zimmerman, styled industry influencer, Courtney Lynn, from The Finance Brides @thefinancebrides for a bridal photoshoot at The Estate at Florentine Gardens. Thanks to White House Bride for dresses, and makeup and hair by Magda Designs. Keep an eye out for our inside takes from the day!
Engagement Ring
If you’re choosing your bridal jewelry, maybe you already have an engagement ring, but for those of you who are ahead of the game and are still at that stage we’ll have a more in-depth blog post soon with tips on picking a style. Our biggest tip, though, is to pick something you’ll get excited to see everyday. Your ring’s biggest job is to symbolize the love between you and your fiancé, and though any ring can do that, you want to love the look of it too. Whether you’re picking the ring out with your boo or they’re finding it solo, make sure you’re both on the same page with the style you can imagine on your finger for years and years to come.
BEHIND THE SCENES: The most important piece of jewelry for the day was the stunning engagement ring Lucy hand-picked for Courtney. This ring is designed to demand your attention (and, obviously, looked amazing in pictures.) The 3-carat center oval cut diamond is complimented by the cascade of oval diamonds on either side, tapering to a smooth finish meeting the band. This ring complimented Courtney’s natural beauty and, though it’s definitely a stand-out piece, didn’t overpower her or the rest of the beautiful things she wore.
Necklace
The necklace you choose is very influenced by the style of dress or suit you choose. While you can wear anything, there are some necklines that lend themselves to specific styles.
A short diamond tennis necklace looks great with almost anything, from strapless dresses to high cowl neck style, and can look amazing peeking through a button-up shirt if that’s more your style. This type of necklace is simple but always eye-catching, so it can be an easy choice for a bit of extra sparkle along with becoming a go-to after your wedding!
For a dress with a low neckline without a lot of textures, you can opt to add interest to the look with an elaborate necklace. Something with a lot of stones or a filigree-style design can become a focal point if you’re looking for some extra embellishment.
Sweetheart and V-shape necklines, a long or pendant-style necklace is a great way to accentuate the lines that the dress creates. Go simple with a solitaire diamond pendant, add some glamour with an intricate design or bring in a hint of color with a gemstone that matches your wedding’s color palette. Pendants can also be an extremely personal addition, such as wearing a diamond paw-print to represent your pet, or a custom-engraved bar with a family member’s handwriting.
With low-back dresses, it’s become common for brides to wear a lariat-style necklace so that it sits short in the front and hangs down in the back, accentuating the length that the backless look creates. A long strand of pearls can also look incredible when worn like this!
BEHIND THE SCENES: With a strapless dress like Courtney’s, the options are almost endless. We chose to have her wear an exquisite 16” Norman Silverman necklace with set marquise diamonds. Having the necklace sit close to her neck brought attention to her face while showcasing the strapless silhouette of the dress.
Earrings
Like necklaces, earrings are somewhat dependent on what hairstyle you decide on. It can even go the other way and help you decide on a hairdo if you find earrings you really love first. Our biggest tip, though, is to find earrings that stay on securely so you can party the night away without worrying that you’ll lose one on the dancefloor.
Up-dos lend themselves nicely to dangling earrings, since they won’t be getting caught in your hair and can help to frame your face. They can also add a touch of movement to hairstyles that are more stationary. For a simpler look we love a dangling straight line of diamonds or for some added embellishment pick a pair with multiple moving pieces or a brightly colored gemstone!
With your hair down, we love the look of cluster stud earrings. This style shows hints of glimmer through your hair and adds a bit of sparkle to those close-up photos. The great thing about this style is that they come in all shapes and sizes. You truly can be as ornate or as simple as you want!
Whatever your hairstyle, you can always go with a pair of studs! Upgrade your pair of diamond studs or find a gemstone with a significance that’s important to you to bring you a little peace or happiness on your day!
BEHIND THE SCENES: You really can’t ever go wrong with diamond hoops, and our owner agreed, styling our beautiful bride in medium-sized hoops with a lot of sparkle. The earrings were the perfect size but add the maximum amount of glimmer since it’s set with larger round diamonds.
Bracelet
Bracelets aren’t always necessary or practical depending on your sleeves, but it can be fantastic to add some bling to balance out your incredible engagement ring and wedding band. They’re also one of the only pieces of your jewelry you’ll be able to see without looking in the mirror, so you can enjoy the sparkle along with your guests.
Just like a tennis necklace, a diamond tennis bracelet goes with anything. They also come in any carat weight you could want, from a thinner 1.00 carat total weight to 10 carats and above! They’ve also become a popular gift for a groom to give to their soon-to-be wife on the morning of the wedding so that she can have this special connection to a bracelet that can also be worn daily.
Customized bracelets are also a great way to add sentiment to your outfit. Similar to how you can incorporate something significant in a pendant necklace, you can get a bracelet that features a charm with meaning or something custom engraved to carry that with you down the aisle. Solid bangle bracelets have become very popular for this purpose.
BEHIND THE SCENES: The final staple of our photoshoot look was the stunning diamond bracelet that Courtney wore. With the mix of diamond shapes and the use of open space in the wide design it was perfect to complement the texture of the dress. It also balanced out the sparkle of the superb engagement ring on her other hand and matched the glitz of the necklace and earrings.
Extras
You don’t have to stick to the basics for your bridal jewelry! For a beach wedding or while wearing a dress with a leg slit you can dress up your lower half with a cute diamond anklet. Body jewelry like nose and lip piercings can also be an important part of your self-expression and getting a special piece to match your wedding look can be the metaphorical icing on the cake. You should accessorize with whatever makes you feel like the best version of you.
Jewelry for him
Jewelry truly is for everyone. Even if a groom doesn’t typically wear anything special, his wedding is a perfect time to accessorize. That can mean wearing something traditional like nice cufflinks or a new watch. That can also mean donning a flashy gold bracelet, an in-trend pearl necklace, or shiny diamond stud earrings.

Engagement Ring
Perfect engagement ring with a round diamond
Wait, I guess I forgot to talk to you about another very important element of your proposal. Before we talk about the place to propose, let's talk about the engagement ring to propose with. What is a more beautiful symbol of love and commitment than an engagement ring?! When you're ready to propose marriage, you want to make sure you have a ring that your partner will absolutely adore. Here's a look at an engagement ring that would accommodate your perfect proposal. The center stone is a stunning round diamond, set in a classic four-prong classic setting. There are much smaller diamonds on the shank of the ring adding a touch of sparkle and brilliance. The band is crafted from gleaming shining white gold and is adorned with delicate migraine detailing. This ring is the epitome of classic elegance and is sure to take your partner's breath away. if you're looking for an engagement ring that's both romantic and timeless, this one is the right one.
Location 1:Somerset Patriots Baseball Stadium
Before we dive into this first proposal location/idea, I wanted to offer a quick disclaimer. This first option is probably the least “traditional” and most niche of all three proposal settings you will read about. It’s almost like one of those instances where, if it works, it can work so beautifully.Popping the question at a baseball stadium can be a unique and unforgettable moment for baseball lovers. Any sports lovers can appreciate the idea of a marriage proposal at a sporting event and the wonderful story it tells for years to come. With that in mind, capturing a proposal at a baseball stadium can become extremely expensive extremely quickly. Given the fact that we are talking about the town of Somerset, let’s think about the New York Yankees for a moment. The average price for a ticket to Yankee Stadium is approximately $160. If you wanted to have a video proposal up on the jumbotron, that will cost you another $2,500.Again, you can see how the cost of this proposal might add up quickly…
Panoramic shot of TD Bank Ballpark in Somerset County
Silver lining is...you’re in luck! Sports and Baseball enthusiasts need look no further than Somerset Patriots Baseball Stadium, TD Bank Ballpark. For those unfamiliar, the Somerset Patriots are a Minor League Baseball team and are the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, located In Bridgewater, New Jersey. Let’s look at the benefits that are now at your disposal.- Video proposal on the jumbotron for a fraction of the cost- Tickets are less expensive so more family and friends can attend- Close to home, adding to the sentimental valueThink about your wedding proposal appearing on the big screen and the entire stadium erupting in applause as you place the engagement ring on your loved one’s finger.Additionally, because it is a smaller market ballpark, you might even try your luck getting creative with the ballpark staff. They can haul over all your favorite ballpark snacks to help you celebrate. Maybe you could even arrange your family and friends to be watching from a separate section and would meet for a surprise celebration immediately following the proposal. Before we move on, let’s start painting a picture in your mind of how you might go about your proposal at the Somerset Patriots Baseball Stadium. One idea that comes to mind and remains very classic at baseball stadiums is the 7thinning stretch. This is usually the time where most birthday shoutouts and wedding proposals appear on the jumbotron of baseball stadiums. Maybe your loved one’s name suddenly appears on the big screen and while she marvels at the fact that someone else with her name is getting proposed to, she turns to see you on one knee and realizes that she is that soon-to-be engaged couple!Because I always like to take things a step above the conventional, let’s talk one more idea you are more than welcome to use. What if you told your soon-to-be fiancé that you both were selected to throw out the first pitch at the game. You can say that you were randomly selected for this honor and build the anticipation and excitement leading up to that day. However, behind the scenes, this is something you have orchestrated with the baseball park staff. When you go out to throw the first pitch, you give the ball to your loved one, giving her the honor of the first pitch. While the pitch is being thrown, you are already down on one knee with the ring in hand. As soon as the pitch is thrown, elation becomes uncontrollable joy as the reality of the situation begins to set in.This becomes a priceless engagement story that will be told for years to come. The possibilities are truly endless!Visit the Somerset Patriots Website to learn about tickets and start planning your surprise engagement today! If sporting events are something the two of you have a special bond with, TD Bank Ballpark and the Somerset Patriots might be just the cup of tea you ordered. Who knows...I might even see you on the jumbotron next season!
Location 2:Colonial Park
The last stop on our wedding proposal location tour of 2022 just might be my favorite. Colonial Park was where my parents had their wedding pictures taken. I have seen the wedding album more times than I can count and, each time I do, I always admire the beauty of the landscape in front of which the photos were taken.

Celebrate Pride Month with Rings as Unique as your Love
June is pride month and Roman Jewelers is celebrating, because we love...LOVE. All kinds of Love. When it comes to ring proposals we’ve seen some couples throw “traditions” out the window, and others that hold on to traditions and have always had the ring of their dreams in their minds. The good news is Roman Jewelers’ BOGO wedding ring Event is designed to work for everyone.
DIAMONDS ARE A GIRLS BEST FRIENDYes, the saying is always relevant. Many same-sex ladies want the ring of their dreams..a diamond engagement ring and/or a diamond wedding band. Brides are choosing engagement rings in fancy shapes more frequently, as it seems to be a growing trend, but round diamonds are still the most popular. We’ve had couples add colored stones to the setting, as well. Bridal Diamond bands range from modest and modern to bold and luxurious and can accompany a band or be worn alone. Matching diamond bands can be a romantic touch, but again, every couple is different and they should choose what they will enjoy. When a couple purchases a ring during our BOGO event for $1,000, the second one is free up to $500, or that amount can be applied to the second ring.
Diamond Wedding Bands Bring the sparkle. These are from Hearts on Fire.
AN AMAZING VARIETY OF WEDDING BANDS FOR ALLDiamonds are not just for the ladies, many men choose to have diamonds on their bands, too. It’s all personal preference. There are so many choices in alternate gemstones and alternate metals including sapphires in any and all colors and metal options like Platinum, Platinum 600 (which adds an alloy), Mixed colored Gold, Titanium and more. A trend lately has been the “edgier” look of a black wedding ring. Black wedding rings can be made of titanium, black rhodium, as well as cobalt and more. For some, a black wedding ring can symbolize courage and strength. It's not just representative of physical strength, but strength of conviction, too. Therefore, it “says” something about the person wearing it. If you are not sure which wedding ring material or gemstones is right for you, speak to your sales representative, who will be more than happy to advise you on the type of wedding band that will suit your budget, your taste, and your lifestyle.
14K Rose Gold-Black Rhodium Wedding Band
RAINBOW WEDDING RING COLLECTIONSPride, for some can be about recognizing the social significance and diversity of LGBTQIA+ marriages and relationships, so colored rainbow gemstones are always in style—and they are fun. Many do not know that sapphires come in all colors from pink and blue to purple and red and a favorite is to use them all in bridal jewelry bands or to choose a ring stack. Designers like Tacori, have handcrafted beautiful and bright sculpted crescent rings to fall in love with.

Proposal Ideas if you're popping the question this Valentine's Day
The proposal worked for Alyssa and Rohan, a wonderful couple we had the pleasure of meeting
Popping the question this Valentine’s Day? If so, hopefully you’ve already found the perfect ring! Now, you need to come up with the perfect proposal….one that you will be able to talk about for years and years and to future generations. Here are some proposal ideas based on the winners of the Top Ten Ultimate Proposal Contest sponsored by the Jewelry Information Council. Take these ideas and make them your own:
If your girlfriend loves puzzles and surprises, have her decode a secret message to open up a lock that reveals an engagement ring inside!
If you are in a long distance relationship and want to shake up the commute, coordinate a proposal 10,000 feet in the air! Surprise your girlfriend by showing up on her flight. You can even get the flight attendants involved!
Break the news by popping the question with a cover article in your local or university paper.
If you travel for work, take your girlfriend on your next “business” trip. Take a detour in a city with a special meeting and surprise her with a ring!
Send your girlfriend on a surprise trip with clues along the way to the place where you met. Don’t forget the passport and flight itinerary!
Looking for adventure? Surprise her by digging up a strategically placed buried treasure. When you open the chest, present her with the ring!
Ask your beloved to marry you at a sentimental place such as where your parents or grandparents met. Pass down the love of your parents or grandparents by giving her a family heirloom ring.
Coordinate with help from friends and family and incorporate her favorite pastime, such as sailing, for the ultimate proposal.
Lead your girlfriend through an intricate scavenger hunt to a candlelit proposal in the park. The crowd that gathers will cheer when she says yes!
If you’re on the creative side, craft hand-made boxes that show scenes of importance times in your relationship. The boxes should be able to fit inside one another like a Russian matryoshka doll. The smallest box should reveal the proposal scene!
Bridal Jewelry: 3 Ways to Wear “Something Blue” on Your Wedding Day
Tacori Topaz Earrings available at Roman Jewelers
We all know the traditional wedding rhyme – “Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue”. Each item in this Old English verse represents a good luck charm a bride should have with her on the big day. We think jewelry is a stylish way to honor this tradition. Inspired by gorgeous blue-hued stones, jewelry with any of these brilliant blues will not only provide good luck but will add beauty and sparkle to any bride:
Aquamarine According to the old traditions, aquamarine promises a happy marriage and is said to bring the woman who wears it joy and wealth. An ideal gem, for loving and married couples. From the light blue of the sky to the deep blue of the sea, aquamarines shine over an extraordinarily beautiful range of mainly light blue colors. Women the world over love it for its fine blue shades which can complement almost any skin or eye color. Its light blue arouses feelings of sympathy, trust, harmony and friendship. Good feelings. Feelings which are based on mutuality and which prove their worth in lasting relationships. The blue of aquamarine is a divine, eternal color because it is the color of the sky. However, aquamarine blue is also the color of water with its life-giving force. And aquamarine really does seem to have captured the lucid blue of the oceans. No wonder, when you consider that according to the saga it originated in the treasure chest of fabulous mermaids, and has, since ancient times, been regarded as the sailors’ lucky stone. Its name is derived from the Latin ‘aqua’ (water) and ‘mare’ (sea). It is said that its strengths are developed to their best advantage when it is placed in water which is bathed in sunlight. Simon G’s exquisite 18 carat earrings from the Passion Collection features an oval cut Aquamarine center stone, surrounded by round white Diamonds, and is perfect for the sophisticated bride.
Blue Sapphire Although, sapphires come in other colors, there is good reason that blue is the favorite! The blue sapphire gives feelings of sympathy and harmony, friendship and loyalty: feelings which belong to qualities that prove their worth in the long term – feelings in which it is not so much effervescent passion that is to the fore, but rather composure, mutual understanding and indestructible trust. Thus the blue of the sapphire has become a color which fits in with everything that is constant and reliable. That is one of the reasons why women in many countries wish for a sapphire ring on their engagement. The sapphire symbolizes loyalty, but at the same time it gives expression to people’s love and longing.
Sapphire and Diamond stud earrings from Roman Jewelers, have a real royal “look” since a design like this has been worn by Kate Middleton and Princess Diana and it will appeal to everyone, including a romantic bride.
Blue Topaz The beautiful cool blue of the sky is captured in blue topaz. Because of its transparent nature, ancient people believed that this gemstone could help improve communication. The stone is believed to lift the mind to be more positive and less stressful. It is said to attract love and wealth. This pastel blue gem is a designer favorite since it is affordable and available in a wide range of gem shapes and sizes. Its bright and lively color looks right set in both yellow and white metals. Shown above, these double-drop sterling silver earrings from Tacori beautifully showcase the Topaz stone. Detailed with the signature Tacori crescents, this floating design would catch the eye of a bohemian bride.

Do-gooders say, “I do.” Congratulations to James & Marah Silvestri! This past week, the winners of the Roman Jewelers Wedding contest were married. After raising more than $20,000 for Special Olympics New Jersey and winning the charity contest last fall, the couple celebrated their nuptials at the Villa at Mountain Lakes in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, courtesy of Frungillo Catering.
Guests danced the night away to musical entertainment by Craig Scott Entertainment, which even included a Michael Jackson impersonator who amazed and delighted attendees.
In addition to the contest sponsorship and wedding rings donated by Roman Jewelers of Flemington and Bridgewater, the generous contributions of all the Romantic Partners were widely noted and admired. The floral arrangements perfectly complemented the venue, Marah looked stunning in her gown by Donna Morello, and the couple’s video preview has already gone viral.
The couple graciously took time during the festivities to thank Roman & Sophie Shor, owners of Roman Jewelers. The groom shared that without the Roman Jewelers Wedding contest, the wedding—especially on such a short timeline—would never have been possible.
According to Sophie Shor, owner of Roman Jewelers, “The Romantic Partners are the businesses that truly care about our communities. I’m not going to be shy about telling everyone I know to shop at their establishments. They are charitable businesses offering only the finest products.”
The couple also generously made a donation to Special Olympics New Jersey in honor of each guest and shared how their involvement with the charity changed their lives forever.

Nancy and Alan
Nancy and Alan had already picked out an engagement ring, and Nancy did not think that there were any surprises left. But Alan wanted to do something unique for his formal proposal of marriage.
Nancy & Alan on their wedding day in December of 2008. Nancy collects "water pens," which are pens with floating scenes in the barrel. Alan decided to have a very special water pen custom made, showing a floating photo of Nancy's engagement ring and another photo of a left hand inside the barrel of the pen. When the barrel of the pen is tilted, the ring floats towards the hand. When the pen is turned over, the barrel reads "Nancy, will you marry me?" Alan picked up Nancy's finished engagement ring from Roman Jewelers, but he did not tell Nancy that he had it. They went for a bike ride at her mother's house, and as they sat resting on the porch afterwards, Nancy talked about her work at the "Make A Wish" Foundation. Alan said that she could fulfill yet another wish with this magic wand, and he handed her the pen. Then he formally proposed and put the engagement ring on her finger. Nancy still cannot tell this story without holding back tears - she was so touched by the sentiment of Alan's proposal.
