Q: Can you provide quick tips on caring for jewelry?
Restringing Pearls ensures the next generation will enjoy them. A: OF COURSE! Once you've made a investment in a piece of fine jewelry, it deserves to have a beautiful, long and healthy life that brings joy every day. Caring for jewelry will not only extend the life of your jewelry--and ability to pass it down to the next generation--but it is really a very simple thing to protect an important and personal investment. Below are some simple, basic guidelines for the care and cleaning of your fine jewelry: Basic jewelry care tips from Roman Jewelers:
Store your jewelry in a clean, dry place.
Keep your jewelry in a fabric-lined jewelry case, or in a box with compartments and dividers. If you prefer to use ordinary boxes, wrap each piece individually in soft tissue paper.
Don't jumble your jewelry pieces in a drawer or jewelry case. Pieces can scratch each other.
Be careful when removing your jewelry to wash your hands. Do not leave your jewelry on the rim of a sink where it can easily slip down the drain.
See your jeweler at least once a year to have your jewelry checked for loose prongs, worn mountings, and general wear and tear. Visit your jeweler every six months to have your jewelry professionally cleaned. These services are generally veryinexpensive or free.
Be careful with store bought ultrasonic cleaners. Theycan damage some jewelry and prolonged use may loosen gemstones from their mountings.Come in and ask us if an ultrasonic cleaning machine is right for your jewelry wardrobe.
Depending on the type of jewelry you have, care must be given to properly maintain it. Roman Jewelers would be happy to provide you with tips on keeping your silver polished, your pearls shiny (just use a damp cloth) and your diamonds sparkling. Stop in and ask.
Tiara, anyone?
Have discretionary $5 to $10 million dollars? If you do, get an airplane ticket to Geneva, Switzerland and attend the Sotheby’s auction on May 17. The emerald and diamond tiara will be offered at an auction there. The tiara was created with 11 pear-shaped rare Colombian emeralds that collectively weigh over 500 carats. The emeralds are thought to have been included in the personal collection of Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III, before the tiara was created for Princess Katharina Henckel von Donnersmarck circa 1900. I don’t think any of you will be ready to jump on that offering. So for now, enjoy the picture. It is truly a magnificent piece of jewelry.

Give a Garnet in January
Red Garnet Rings by Marco Bicego
This red garnet ring is designed by Marco Bicego and available at Roman Jewelers.
As Aquarius’ zodiac stone and the second wedding anniversary gem, garnet provides a versatile family of affordable gems that can be enjoyed year-round. But, probably, the garnet is known mostly as January’s birthstone.
A Family of Gems
Garnet is actually the group name for a family of gemstones that come in almost every color. They’re beautiful, durable, and most garnets are very affordable. The name “garnet” comes from the Roman word granatus, meaning “seed,” because the gems were thought to resemble pomegranate seeds.

Custom Design Work and Faberge Easter Eggs at Roman Jewelers
No, you won't find Imperial Faberge Easter Eggs at Roman Jewelers! The Easter Eggs designed and crafted by the Russian jeweler Peter Carl Faberge are extraordinary objects of art given by the last two Russian czars to their czarinas as Easter gifts. The eggs are masterpieces through which the history of Russia at the end of the 19th century through the Great Russian Revolution of 1917 could be told. They tell a fascinating story of love, privilege, beauty, and the downfall of a Russian dynasty. Faberge's Imperial Easter Eggs are the pinnacle of the jeweler’s art. Every jeweler dreams of achieving the level of craftsmanship that Carl Faberge was able to achieve. As jewelry designers, we can only strive to reach higher and higher levels in the work that we produce. We can study Faberge’s work and learn from his phenomenal craftsmanship. And we can love, and we can tell of our love with special words, special gifts and, yes, with a gift of an Easter Egg.
You Cannot Make a Mistake Buying a Tanzanite
Custom-designed tanzanite pendant by Roman Jewelers of Flemington and Bridgewater, NJ
Would you like to own an heirloom gemstone? If so, Tanzanite may be the perfect choice.
Tanzanite can be purchased today, but it is estimated that it will only be mined for another 10 to 15 years. Beyond our generation, this extraordinary gemstone will only be available through inheritance or auctions—making it an ideal option for a custom-designed heirloom piece.
Tanzanite is found in only one place on Earth: the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. This rare gemstone is admired for its exquisite blend of purple, blue, and violet hues. Strong blue and blue-violet tones are often enhanced by flashes of red radiating from within the stone, making tanzanite truly irresistible.
Tanzanite gemstones range in color from deep royal blue to lighter shades of periwinkle. Although the stone was formed approximately 585 million years ago, it was not officially “discovered” until 1967.
Today, tanzanite appeals equally to gemstone collectors and to those seeking a custom-designed piece that is rare, unique, and deeply meaningful. Our custom jewelry designers at Roman Jewelers often refer to tanzanite as a dream stone.
Tanzanite pairs beautifully with platinum, white gold, and yellow gold, and its vibrant color complements all skin tones. You truly can’t go wrong with tanzanite—it is a beautiful, brilliant, and exceptionally rare gemstone.
If you already own a tanzanite and would like it set into a stunning, one-of-a-kind design, we would be delighted to create something special just for you. It is a piece you will cherish for years to come—and one you will be proud to pass on to the next generation.
The Pearl of Queens, and the Queen of Pearls
That is exactly what the South Sea Pearls are called - the Queen of Pearls. Didyou know that before the science of pearl culturing was developed by Mikimoto in 1893, pearls of any kind were so exceedingly rare that thousands of oysters could be opened before one natural pearl was revealed? Did you know that even today it could take years to assemble a harmoniously matched strand of high-quality South Sea pearl necklace? Whether you desire a pair of luminous earrings or a simple elegant strand of pearls, enjoy these sumptuous gems.
Does Your Jewelry Tarnish?
Gold and platinum are among the word's most tarnish-resistant metals. Then why is it that sometimes the gold jewelry leaves a black smudge on the skin? What is going on? Actually, it is not the gold that leaves that black smudge. It is the skin's oil and cosmetics reacting with the gold alloys. What is the solution? Simple: clean your jewelry often and switch the brand of your lotion and cosmetics. Silver does tarnish because it reacts to particles in the air (sulphur, in particular). This tarnish is a micro-thin coating and not deterioration of silver, and can be easily wiped away. Higher end silver jewelry is coated with a tarnish-resistant thin layer of rhodium which prevents silver from tarnishing.
New Sparkle for Diamond Studs
Diamond studs never go out of style. But, if you would like to add a very special sparkle to your diamond stud earrings, you can have a circular "jacket" made to surround each diamond with a circle of either pavé or smaller prong-set diamonds. Thiswill allow you toadd even moreimpact to your beautiful stones on special occasions. Another way to customize your diamond studs is to put them into a bezel setting that also has a circle of diamonds or other gemstones like sapphires or rubies.
